Ask Maps infographic for Google Business Profile visibility

Ask Maps is another sign that Google Maps is moving away from simple keyword matching and closer to question-based recommendations.

Instead of searching only for things like “dentist London” or “Italian restaurant near me”, people can now ask more specific questions inside Maps:

“Where can I find a quiet café to work from?”
“Which plumber responds quickly?”
“Is there a gym nearby for beginners?”

That changes what a Google Business Profile needs to do.

A profile is no longer just a listing with a phone number and opening hours. It also helps Google understand what kind of business it is, what it offers, who it serves, and when it may be relevant to a customer’s question.

That’s why weak or incomplete profiles may struggle more in answer-led search experiences.

If your profile contains vague categories, outdated information, thin descriptions, inconsistent details, few photos, or generic reviews, Google has less information to work with.

On the other hand, profiles with proper service information, accurate categories, detailed reviews, strong photos, active updates, and consistent business details give Google more useful signals.

No guarantees. No shortcuts.

But if Google Maps is becoming more recommendation-driven, then your Google Business Profile needs to become easier for Google to process, trust, and connect to real customer intent.
